Summary:

Comprised of one large island and three smaller islands in close proximity, Lu’ryl is a dense jungle of a landmass. While smaller islands do exist within their control, the main focus is on these four islands. The largest island exist in between the other three, which form a triangle around it. The main island is typically considered a neutral hunting ground between the original three tribes in the earliest days. It is also the place where they would interact with each other in either talks, fights, or competitions. As relationships between the tribes developed, they began to build a central location, Torr’ryl (Far-Home), between all three tribes where, once a year, they would meet in friendly competition and storytelling. As time passed, people began to stay at this ground until it was a year round home for all tribes. This is the first major city in Lu’ryn history and is the capital to this day.

Another key aspect to understand of Lu’ryl is the size of the non-human non-sentient inhabitants. It is home to a number of reptiles, insects, and arachnids that are as large as a large dog to as big as a person. Peculiarly as well, the barrier between the spiritual realm and the plane is extremely thin, allowing some spirits and ancestors cross the bounds. In areas it is weakest, the Lu’ryn have built shrines and while most are left alone, some of the more cruel spirits are marked as such.

Lu’ryl has two main governments, both led by the current Tu (Chief). During times of war, they turn into a Military council until peace has been reached and return back to their Monarchy. Some chiefs have attempted to use this to hold in power when the public has gone against them, but it usually fails, leading to exiling of their family.

History:

The earliest known ancestors of the Lu’ryn are primates. Not quite monkeys, but some kind of common ancestor between the two. Something more intelligent than the monkey but dumber than the Lu’ryn. This early ancestor is typically found around what would be the Great Tree Spirit. The Lu’ryn claim that they were the children of Varl’or and Lo’gyl, the island and Spirit Tree. This primitive ancestor would then move away from the tree. Several stayed behind to care for the tree. Ultimately, only three settlements survived as well as the temple guardians.

Remnants of these attempted settlements can be found in primitive foundations or stones walls retaken by the jungle. These locations vanished all clues as to what brought them to an untimely end for the most part, but some clues seem to suggest a bad chill or sickness wiped them out. However, what was most surprising was how similarly all three tribes and guardians turned out to be. Since they intermingling of the tribes has begun, much of the traits common to each has spread. Though that intermingling didn’t occur till later.

The darker skin of the Avar made them excellent hunters at night and in areas the sun did not shine as much. They tended to become more lithe and acrobatic, founding para’kour which has been shortened to Parkour since. The Hyl’s lighter skin didn’t give them that natural camouflage in the forests and jungles, but the tribe preferred to hunt in the skies, where the fainter pastel colors allowed them to blend better with the storm below them and the ocean above. They tended to find themselves better at balance and resourcefulness. Lastly, the Oh tribe didn’t bear any skin coloration for hunting reason, usually standing out in their less covered home. They tended to farm and face foes head on, going after large beasts that wouldn’t run upon seeing them. This forced them to be more fortuitous and strong.

There the three tribes were guided by spirits to build the Three Temples, finally learning of the other tribes. At this point, thousands of years had already passed, leaving each curious about the other. Eventually, trade deals were organized, allowing each to get pieces of lives they never did have: soap from whale blubber, bread from the farms, guard animals. As relationships fostered between them, so did petty conflict. Eventually, it was decided to solve these issues at a yearly game where the three tribes would compete. A series of competitions would occur and then the judges would consult the spirits and those favored by the spirits won. At the end, all victories were added together to declare a winning tribe.

AS more competitions went on, the more people chose to stay around, forming a small village there. These people originally were assigned to keep the grounds spiritually active and clean. Soon they had families. And then friends. And before the tenth generation had passed on, Torr’ryl became the capital. Soon after, they would meet and befriend the Seyarans, showing off much of their wonders and teaching and being taught the customs. They have adapted some of Seyaran design into their life, but for the most part use a mixture of nature and magic to sustain their cities.

Major Features:

Shrine of Varl’or (No translation)
The Great Spirit of Lu’ryl that resides within the island and manifests as life. That would be the closest translation that would make sense and convey what Varl’or is. Each tribe has a temple, but Torr’ryl has the most famous temple, delving deep into the island in reverse pyramid. At its widest, the hole spans two hundred feet by two hundred feet, shrinking about twenty feet for each tier, ending on the eighth at forty feet by forty feet and one hundred and sixty feet deep. The last tier is restricted to priests and those they ask to enter. Those people do leave in good health.

Old Torr’ryl
Torr’ryl has changed much since the first days it was constructed into a more permanent settlement. While modern architecture in Lu’ryl sports modernizations similar to Seyaria with concrete, stone, and wood, early Lu’ryl was cobbled together by what nature left behind. Fallen trees, clay, branches, and so forth. Old Torr’ryl has been mostly preserved by some of the older generations of Lu’ryn, maintaining not only the structural appearance, but culture. It has become a great tourist spot for the other races to learn about the culture and people the Lu’ryn came from.

The Great Tree Spirit

To the North of Torr’ryl and near the edge of the island rests a large willow tree. Large as in a minimum of three hundred feet tall and roughly as wide, branches reaching far and wide as the wind gently blows. Here, an unprecedented amount of spiritual energy flows like a river as spirits dance through the branches. Lo’gyl or Big-Tree, as the Lu’ryn call it, is believed to have been the lover or wife of Varl’or, but infused herself with the tree to save him and the life on the island. Worship of the tree grants no powers, but it is said that asking the tree a question may get an answer trickled upon the lips of wind.

The Three Temples
Avar’ryl, Hyl’ryl, and Oh’ryl are the three cities that now exist in the location of the three original tribes, Avar, Hyl, and Oh. The Three Temples are the sister simples dedicated to Varl’or, but the temples are special in another way. They were built on Magways as guided by the spirits, and their exact specifications on height and design style was granted to them via dreams. Each temple is identical and points directly to the other two temples, despite the tribes not knowing where the others were during construction. At the top of these pyramid-like structures featured a singular room with three chairs, a firepit, and nothing else. When lit, the temples connect, allowing those inside the room to be, as if, physically there with the other tribes. This room was restricted to the High Elder who would commune with the Elders of the other tribes, forming the first peace among them.

The Sporting Grounds
The old sporting grounds have long since been abandoned for the large amphitheater building centralized in the main parts of Torr’ryl, placed near tourist attractions and inns to allow guests to flock from all over to watch events held there. The actual grounds are quite large, featuring fields designed for nearly every competition. And when the competition moves on, powerful druids shift the field of play for the next competition, bringing in snow, water, or whatever else is needed. This stadium can hold up to ten thousand viewers, making it the largest sporting ground to exist, considering that is almost half the population of the island. When the Grand Tournament is not going on, they host other events including concerts, sporting events, gatherings.
