Major Events

One of the great things about a living world is that things happen and the world changes. You, as a character, may not have been involved in it, but someone was. Now, unlike the real world, you can't just pick up the news paper and read about it, so we need to give you a way to facilitate looking into it. That's what this page is for! Here we'll try to keep things up to date on major changes or events that happen in the history of Arvalan. Of course, we can't detail every note that happens, but these events should be something that altered the very face of the plane or how it works. The events following this will be listed in chronological order from Oldest to Newest.

The Cult of the Ocean and Whale Spotting Days

"The crowds had begun to prepare into the city centers as they began to happily await the path of the migrating whales. Plates of food had been set out and everyone was welcome to come and join in on the small celebrations. There was live local music and many places had free telescopes out for people to use. However, this excitement soon became enshrouded in worry as people saw the lead alpha whale crest into sight through the clouds that dot the horizons of most islands. A massive four hundred feet in size. But the fear was about a large wooden platform built into the creatures back. Large, infected wounds rested around each large post. On top of these platforms were robed men bearing the symbol of the Cult of the Ocean. The alarm bells began to ring as the guards realized just where the whales were going towards. By then, there was barely any time for them to evacuate, but still they tried as messengers were sent sprinting to every guild for mandatory service.

One such guild, the League of Adventure, arrived as fast as they could. Of course, not all were able to assist in the same great way as the heroes of Ylfur (garbled last name), Szeth Ibn La-Ahad, Sana, Golm, Erden Tzadoc Manachev, and one who called himself Lighting. Our newspaper has requested interviews with some of them, but not all were able to give a post for Hare Reporting, your trusted newspaper for getting you news fast!

These brave heroes led a charge at the whales with the aid of local Para-dropper and veteran of the Seyaran Military, Leril Keen. While many military ships were getting crippled by blasts of flak, preventing them from getting too close and the whales being too tough to their cannons, the party of heroes cascaded down upon the ledges. Reports of what happened on that platform are few, but somehow it caught fire as the heroes fought through the cultists, dealing with them like mere paper and saving the day at one of the last possible moments! They even managed to put out the fire before all were rescued from aboard the whale or wherever they had managed to fall off of and survive.

Without these six brave heroes, Seyaria City would have been crushed beneath the herd with countless lives lost. It is, without a doubt, a great debt we owe these heroes that this celebratory feast only scratches the surface of."

Each member of the party was asked to write a report on the encounter from their character's perspective. These are not necessarily things you could have read ICly about the event, though some, which are reports or interviews, definitely could have been. You can find the links below:

The Forward Progress Initiative

The Forward Progress Initiative originally stated out as a Seyaran government funded secret project. However, once Constructs were considered people and citizens, the project was scrapped. How they are still functioning isn't clear, but adventurers have discovered that the goal of the organization is to create constructs that could replace all government leaders and allow them to rule the plane from the shadows. However, their main construct expert, Drak'val, betrayed them and sabotaged the research and working prototype model known as 0A0. He renamed the construct and hid them away for a long time, hoping the Initiative would give up. In their dormancy, they have set up a massive army of semi-functioning constructs that are beginning to work their way into different organizations. One of their main targets is the League of Adventure for preventing them access to Drak'val's notes and the answers they so desperately need.

The League of Adventure warns those within its ranks to stay close to each other when you go about. If you don't, stay on your toes and be ready to defend yourself. A minimum of three adventurers have been attacked so far with no casualties yet.

Update: As of the 14th of Chinel, 79 A.I., the Forward Progress Initiative has been considered destroyed and disbanded. There still may exist traces of the order among other organizations.

About four hundred members of the FPI rebellion were there either as a shapeshifter or support of them. On top of that, there were three (although on the smaller side) military airships with full crew. The plan was detailed and the assault began. The ships lurched forward and began to assault the outer walls of the facility and were quickly charged by flying constructs. With the wall now having gaps and the guardians provoked, the armies charged in to lead a fight as Volya tunneled a party under the ground towards the facility entrance. She would take up guard at the door, commanding herself into a giant beast of great strength.

The party then pursued inwards, Vai finally recovering slightly from her drunken stupor. Quickly, they were set upon by older models of the constructs, fully loyal to the FPI. However, loyalty was severed as the constructs were destroyed, though not without taking a considerable amount of harm themselves. Rail having taken down eight constructs in a blink of an eye. However, the party set forth, eventually stumbling into an ambush of concealed constructs that were far more sentient. During this fight, Rail took enough damage to drop unconscious, but otherwise, the party made it out with only minor injury due to Brand's tanking of Tohka and Raime's excellent swordsmanship slicing down a hall of incoming enemies while Brawn protected Rail as best as he could.

But they got the key and continued, crashing their way through multiple groups of enemies and locating 0A1's corpse and the refined powder that made up her core. Then they returned with the key to the next room. They promptly entered, and Brand charged forwards. He survived the first swing, but the second one left Ninetoes bisected from foot to ear. Dead in quite the anti-climatic fashion but fitting conclusion. There the party returned to help finish the fight, saving Volya and ending the FPI. Of course... some cells may linger, but most are gone for now...

The three ships had been destroyed and crashed, but most of the soldiers lived. About half of the shapechangers died in the fight and then 25% of those that remained vanished during the night of the party.

Brushwork: Crime and Anti-magic

On the 8th of Chinel, 79 A.I, an explosion on the outskirts of the city of Brightstone caused an artificial Drought which pulled several Sky Sailors from the air and wreaked havoc on the city. The source of the explosion was an armored truck a team from the League managed to force off a cliff, at the culmination of a shootout between them and goons from the Malone crime family. The truck was said to contain a portrait which was tied to an entity with no color, that assumed the form of a Seyaran woman who fought the league on the scene.

This has been linked to another event, that being an incident on the 6th of Harvest, 78 A.I, wherein a ship called The White Marvel detonated over a stretch of wetlands which resulted in another drought. However, that ship was tied to the Pierro crime family, not the Malones. The White Marvel was carrying a payload of purple crystals that radiated magic, however these dissolved into paint before they could be studied. That region has since recovered, as the area within Brightstone is expected to over the next few months.

The league has encountered these crystals, and enchanted portraits on two other notable occasions. Firstly, an incident on the 27th of Harvest, 78 A.I, wherein the curator of a portrait gallery was found possessed by such a portrait. During that incident, members of the league entered into the curator's mind to break the link and within that mindscape fought several monochrome figures that used the purple crystals as ammunition. It was later discovered the curator donated away their entire collection during their possession, though the majority of these portraits have not been located.

Secondly, an incident on the 16th of Thel'ha, where a team from the league fought more painted manifestations, these in the form of black blobs, within Seyaria's slums. These entities were traced back to a docked ship called The Missive. Aboard the missive the team successfully subdued a possessed individual and freed them from their possession. Questioning revealed that the individual was possessed when inspecting a new donation, a portrait from the collection in the previously mentioned incident, to the Ashfield Asylum For The Criminally Insane. This individual has been placed under the league's protective custody. The Asylum is currently under investigation.

On several occasions captives taken during these events have turned up dead, or missing, after being placed under the watch of local law enforcement. The league has been authorized to take any future captives linked to these events directly to the league's own facilities to ensure they survive long enough to be properly interrogated.

Both the entity fought on the Brightstone outskirts, and those fought within the curator's mindscape, are operating under similar names.
