Description:

Less a species and more a grouping of several species together based on notable character traits, the Beastmen or Kol’ok, the adopted name which essentially means miscellaneous, contain an assortment of Tauric, hybrid creatures, and more. Originally, the Kol’ok people consisted of a tauric people of what could best be described as large felines with a humanoid torso where the head of the cat should be. This torso had two arms and a feline head and was coated in fur. However, these beings began to take in, enslave, or capture a number of other species. In part, this is for labor and extending their control. But because of this, there has become a wider diversity among the islands the Kol'ok control.

That said, the general appearance traits that the Kol'ok look for is animal or bestial traits. Fur, tails, feathers, and more all are common on members of the Kol'ok. True-Blooded Kol'ok have very little sexual dimorphism besides how muscle is distributed and genitalia. They are large, tauric beings with heavy feline features. They are notable for live birth where the child can walk soon after being born. They reach physical maturity at eighteen. This may not hold true for other members brought into the fold.

Culture:

A warring nation, the Kol’ok were strong and technologically advanced desert peoples that sought to bring much of the fold under their banner of their god-king. However, not always did they decimate and enslave other islands, the original Kol’ok and eventually those they brought into their people would seek to only destroy the government and invite the people to unite with them. Though this was more of an ultimatum of Join Us or Die, it still gave the people a choice. Those who fought would have much of their culture and way of life changed to more traditional Kol'ok ones. Those who came into the fold willingly, were not so pressured, but many still would lose their ways in favor of the Kol'ok's. They had only two major requirements: a tax to supply their armies and to worship the God-Prince.

This process worked for thousands of years before the God-Prince was murdered in the year 78 A.I. and the faith was shaken among to people far enough to have many go on pilgrimage to other nations to understand what went wrong or to find the next thing to do. A subservient people without master. Their culture pushed for hard work and proving oneself to others. An insult to a Kol’ok was an attack to their well being and pride. Something many felt must be answered in return. Seeing as much of the culture of the Kol'ok and Subspecies focused on Prince Ol'ko, his death has caused a shattering of beliefs. Some cling to the old ways for stability while others declare it a time for change. However, since their empire dissolved and splintered, the Kol’ok and Subspecies have spread out onto other islands.

While founded from the Prince's words, many have a strong dislike towards non-bestial races or races that are less bestial than others. This is especially true when they bear resemblance to Seyarans. Typically, these people were enslaved or mistreated, but some worked hard to ensure they too were respected. This usually meant having a strong hatred towards creatures that were more or similarly Seyaran. To be called that is an insult that usually ended with one party dead or humiliated.

Adaptations:

Similar to the Exogan, the number of possibilities is high. But, claws for climbing is common, legs for leaping, or so on based on the animals they represent.

Other Info:

  • No one knows how long the Kol’ok empire lasted besides that it was formed before the first recorded pieces of the written language.

  • As far as the public is aware, they only had one God-Prince. Whether this is really true or just his son’s son’s son’s… and so on is not known as the secret died with him and his closest members of court.

  • *This doesn’t include Prince Ol’ko who was thousands of years old.

Notable Subspecies:

  • Nak'ap: A group of bipedal, Seyaran-like bat hybrids that have a propensity towards individualism and survival. Curiously, despite their desire for the individual, they tend to have an affinity with natural magic to control others. As such, this made them excellent members of Ol'ko's secret police. It also made it easy to punish them by taking away what defines them as an individual: removing names being the primary one. They had fought against Ol'ko's takeover and had much of their culture destroyed with some only recently beginning to rekindle what it once was.
