Dragons themselves are not a playable species. Their kin are though.

Dragons exist as a primordial species of lore keepers. These ancient, winged, and large beings rarely interact with other species, but in some cases will have relations with some creatures to keep as tenders. These exist in Dragonids, Kobolds, and Dragonkin. All three of these children function and appear differently, but all come from eggs and speak Draconic (usually). Dragons and Color align to show powers, red, gold, and bronze coloration are known for control over fire. Green, black, brown, and yellow control earth and have an acid breath. Purple, white, silver, and gray control air and breathe electricity. Blue, blue-green, and cobalt control water and ice.

Description:

Dragonids are a quadrupedal race of half-dragon similar to the Kol’ok founding race and are tauric. Most Dragonids are completely scaled from tail to snout, but more diluted bloodlines can lead to a more Seyaran upper half. These exceptions come rarely as it requires inter-species relations in a way that typically isn’t comfortable and the Dragonid must be the mother. This subspecies of dragon tends to be more martially oriented with strong muscles that course up their back and shoulders. However, they are very well-rounded and have very little that makes them stand out in any one exceptional way. Similar to Kobolds, Dragonids tend to have control over the element matching their scales.

Kobolds are bipedal, small creatures, standing around three to four feet tall, with leathery scales, toothy snouts, long tails, and hairless bodies. They tend to look more draconic or lizard-like than like most other humanoid species. These small dragon-kin tend to be rumored of slightly lower intelligence than most others of the species but are dastardly clever. Their strength also leaves much to be desired, though there do exist exceptions. Kobolds exist in many different scale coloration, similar to their dragon parent, and do have some control over the corresponding element. The only way to tell a male and female kobold apart falls to their hips. Males do not need to lay eggs, allowing them to be smaller.

Dragonkin are the last of the three dragon subspecies. Like the Kobold, they are a bipedal species but with much more height. The origins of the people are said to come from a young dragon that fell in love with a Seyaran mage. Their children, born from the Seyaran, were deformed and scaled. Many considered them too ugly, but in truth, their parents made a new species. Of course, it wasn’t just one dragon that did this, as dragonkin cropped up in many different locations, typically near dragon lairs on populated islands. They tend to stand at a height of six to eight feet tall and wear a skin of thick leathery scales. Sharp, inwardly-curved teeth fill their elongated maw. No or little hair adorns their form.  Females of the species tend to be more lithe and have wider hips, but otherwise no other sexual dimorphisms except in rare mutations.

Culture:

Dragonids tend to act nobler than other species, believing that their forms are closer to that of the great dragon, making them better than others. While true that their forms more closely align, genetics fails to impart the greatness of being affiliated. The strength of a dragon is passed along, but that is all. Dragonids tend to serve as soldiers to protect a Dragon's lair. Their ability to specialize into many different paths gives them the benefit of diverse fighting styles of magic to martial prowess. Favored hobbies of Dragonids is training and collection based hobbies.

Kobolds tend to be flighty and quiet among other species, especially if they are nervous. This is often misconstrued as a lack of intelligence, but among those they are comfortable with, they will talk their ear off. They are also rampant hoarders. Usually as the smallest, their treasure falls around glorified junk. However, anything shiny, expensive-looking, or mechanical will find its way into their pile if they can help it. The Dragons preferred to use them for scouting, stealing, and crafting. Give a Kobold a few pieces of metal and a bit of time and they can often turn that into a deadly weapon, trap, or device.

Unlike the other two subspecies, Dragonkin bear the boldness of their ancestors and also their curiosity. Of all the subspecies, they are the ones most likely to be found in a city and to go on adventures. Usually they will make a trip back to their home to share these stories with other dragons or their dragon parent, grandpa, or so on. They would also bring back treasures to share with the Dragon.

Adaptations:

All three have protective scales that can function almost like armor as well as an affinity towards elemental magic based on their scale covering. Kobolds are great sneaks and thieves due to size.

Other Info:

  • Kobolds were originally thought to be a pest plaguing Dragons, leading to a large extermination attempt only to then be ended by the dragon itself in violent response. It has since been learned that Kobolds are created by Dragons. Though no one is sure how.
